What Is Glitch Typography?
Glitch typography is type that has been deliberately broken. The style borrows from real technical failures — a video signal dropping out, a file compressing badly, a printing press running its plates out of register — and applies them on purpose, as an aesthetic choice rather than an accident.
Most glitch effects are screen-native. They simulate what goes wrong on a display: RGB channels separating into red-and-cyan fringes, scan lines slipping sideways, pixels sorting themselves into bands. That vocabulary is well-worn by now. It reads as digital, and often as slightly dated digital.
This set works the other side of the same idea. Every effect here simulates what happens when a printer fails — halftone dots landing off-register, ink offsetting onto the sheet behind it, plates misaligning by a fraction of a millimetre. The distortion sits on paper texture instead of on a screen, which is why the results read as physical rather than filtered. Closer to a mis-run poster than a corrupted file.
That distinction is worth thinking about when you pick an effect. Screen glitches suit anything tech-facing. Print glitches suit editorial, music, and poster work, where an audience reads texture as craft rather than as error.
